Sharon Prince’s Vision For The Grace Farm Community Center

When a collection of friends and neighbors from Connecticut decided that the community needed a center with multifunctional capabilities, no one knew at the time that it would become one of the country’s most beautiful and awarded architectural works of our time.

The project which was funded by the Grace Farms Foundation wanted something down to earth and spiritual without having people mistake it for an Amish farm. Because the center was built in Connecticut, real estate was extremely low priced and offered some of the most beautiful locations. The project would go on to cost Grace Farms $120 million, which included purchasing acres within some of the most expensive areas of Connecticut.

For the design of the project, Grace Farms hired an award-winning architecture firm SANAA, to be in charge of the aesthetics of the project. The multifunctional center named “Grace Farms” for the foundation that funded the project opened on October 9th with great reception.

Sharon Prince, the president of the Sharon Prince Grace Farms Foundation stated that the center was exactly what she hoped for. She toured the facility in awe along with other distinguished visitors such as hedge fund executive Robert P. Prince of Bridgewater Associates and about a hundred more donors of the project.

Later, Cliffe Knechtle, the pastor for the Grace Community Church provided the facility for a blessing prior to its opening. The project was approved mainly on the grounds that it would convey a religious goal, however, according to Grace Farms, the facility is opened to all and every religion.

The initial proposal of the look of the center by Sharon Prince caught the firm a little off guard at first. Kazuyo Sejima, the co-principle of the architect firm commented on how Sharon Prince and Grace Farm wanted a new look to the center, something that helped it blend it into the beautiful nature in the background.
